Tips for First-Time Baseball Fans in Omaha

Omaha has a vibrant baseball scene with a long and proud history. Whether you’re visiting and hoping to catch a game, or you actually live in Omaha but (somehow) never got into baseball, you’ve got some exciting opportunities. First-time baseball fans in Omaha may have a chance to enjoy the College World Series at Charles Schwab Field, an impressive stadium that seats 24,000 fans, catch an Omaha Storm Chasers game at Werner Park, or visit the old site of the Men’s College World Series, Rosenblatt Stadium located next to the Omaha Zoo.

Tips for First-Time Baseball Fans in Omaha

Don’t worry — baseball can be a lot of fun, even if you don’t know much about it. Check out these tips to make the most of your Omaha baseball experience.

1. Familiarize Yourself with the Basics

You can obviously skip this step if you’re already familiar with baseball and just want tips for enjoying games in Omaha. If you know nothing about the sport, though, brushing up on the basics really helps. That includes things like scoring, the anatomy of the ballpark, and a quick history of the baseball teams you’ll be watching.

2. Get There Early

Baseball stadiums are huge. If you’re watching the College World Series at Charles Schwab Field in Downtown Omaha, you’ll be walking into a state-of-the-art stadium that holds tens of thousands of fans and has plenty of concession stands. If you have never been to the stadium before, it can be confusing and overwhelming, and finding your seats may be a challenge.

That’s an excellent reason to get there early all on its own, but arriving well before the game kicks off also allows you to soak in the unique atmosphere and enjoy the fan fest. Did we mention autographs? If you arrive early enough, you may be able to score some!

3. Hit the Concession Stands

Werner Park (home to the Omaha Storm Chasers) and Charles Schwab Field Omaha (home to the College World Series) both let you bring empty water bottles, which you can fill there. Unless you have special dietary requirements, you can’t bring your own food — and really shouldn’t, because you’d be missing out.

You’ll be able to pick from lots of different options, including some gluten-free ones, and stadium food really completes the experience.

4. Get Berm Seats if You’re Taking Your Kids

Berm seats are the best for a family-friendly experience, as your kids can run around and sit straight on the grass. This makes for a fun and authentic experience they’ll remember forever! Don’t forget to bring a blanket.

Note* Berm seats are available at Werner Park, however, they are not an option at Charles Schwab Field.

5. Plan Out Your Parking Strategy

Parking before a baseball game can be a bit challenging, especially if you don’t arrive early enough. While parking is well-organized with clear signage at both Werner Park and TD Ameritrade Park Omaha, you can definitely brace yourself for some congestion.

Consider taking a cab or parking further out if you want to avoid the hassle, or at least arrive as early as possible. Note that parking too close to the stadium can occasionally cause a ball to hit your car at Werner Park.

6. Go with the Flow

Planning ahead can make the game experience less stressful for baseball fans in Omaha. However, also remember to leave space for spontaneity! Connecting with long-time fans, buying some cool souvenirs from the gift shop, and cheering loudly are all part of the fun.
