Have you ever wondered the best way to fold t-shirts when packing for a trip, tidying up your closet, or making your drawers look orderly and neat? Folding your t-shirts the right way can make all the difference in saving space and avoiding wrinkles. This post covers several ways to fold a t-shirt, including the classic method, a speedy retail technique, and a space-saving travel hack.
How to Properly Fold a T-Shirt?
The Classic Fold
The classic fold is simple and great for stacking t-shirts in a drawer or on a shelf.
- Lay the T-shirt on a flat surface and smooth it by hand.
- Fold the T-shirt from one edge towards the middle. Inwardly fold about a third of the shirt’s side, then fold the sleeve back over. Repeat the same procedure with the other side to form a rectangle.
- Take the bottom of the t-shirt and fold it to the neckline. The bottom edge must rest a couple of inches below the collar.
- Flip the t-shirt over and smooth it.
Fold A T-shirt Using The Retail Fold
If you’ve ever wondered how clothing stores fold t-shirts so well, here’s the method they use.
- Place the T-shirt facing up on a flat surface.
- Fold a third of the way across the shirt from the left side, bringing the sleeve straight across to line up with the right side of the collar. (Vertical Fold)
- Repeat with the opposite side. Tuck the edge so it lies adjacent to the left side of the collar and is covered by the first fold. At this point, the shirt should appear long and narrow, with the print design down the middle.
- Bring the bottom third of the t-shirt up toward the middle, and bring down the top third so it meets the bottom edge.
- Finishing Touch – Turn the shirt so that it lays with the design facing out.
Rolling Technique
Rolling is an excellent space-saving method. It effectively eliminates most wrinkles, is useful for traveling, and makes packing and unpacking easy.
- Lay the shirt face down on a flat surface.
- Fold the bottom of the shirt up about four inches to create a cuff.
- Roll the sleeves inwards towards the center so they don’t stick out from the torso.
- Roll the t-shirt tightly from the neckline to the bottom.
- With the cuff you made at the bottom, roll it over the roll and around the rest of the roll. This enables a tight roll that won’t come loose in your bag.
How To Fold A Perfect T-shirt
- Smooth as You Go: Ensure you smooth out the wrinkles when you fold. This strategy reduces creasing.
- Even Folds: Ensure all folds are the same size. This tip makes it easy to keep the t-shirts in a drawer or suitcase for storage or packing.
Adapt the folding technique to your storage requirements: The way you store t-shirts varies depending on where you store them. Vary the folding method to suit your storage or packing space.
