The Omaha Supernovas: Volleyball
The Omaha Supernovas have just been announced as the first local team to take part in the Nebraska Pro Volleyball Federation (PVF). It’s big news for Omaha sports fans and marks a whole new exciting phase in local sports.
There’s more cool news for sports fans, the team is supported and owned by Jason Derulo.
The Omaha Lancers: Hockey
The Omaha Lancers are a semi-professional junior hockey ice hockey team that has been in existence since 1986. The team is a member of the United States Hockey League (USHL), and has participated in regular home-and-away games over several decades.
In 2022, David Wilkie was announced to return as the team’s coach and manager, bringing in a new phase for local ice hockey competition.
Omaha Beef: Football
Omaha Beef is an indoor football team, that has been part of Nebraska’s history since 2000. The Omaha Beef are named for one of Omaha’s most well-known exports and local dishes: Beef.
Since 2023, their coach has been player Rayshaun Kizer, who took over from Marvin Jones.
Union Omaha: Soccer
In 2019, USL1 granted an expansion franchise to Alliance Omaha Soccer Holdings, paving the way for their inaugural season in 2020. Union Omaha is a professional American soccer team that plays their home games at Werner Park in Papillion, NE. In the team’s short history, they have experienced much success.
After defeating Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC, Omaha played Minnesota United FC of MLS in the Round of 16 and won 2–1, making Union Omaha the first third-division team since Orlando City in 2013 to advance to the U.S. Open Cup quarterfinals.
University of Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks: College Athletics
The Omaha Mavericks proudly represent the University of Nebraska Omaha in NCAA Division I athletics. While they are members of the Summit League for most sports, an exception exists for ice hockey.
In a significant move in 2011, the Mavericks’ hockey team became a founding member of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC). This marked their departure from the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) at the conclusion of the 2012–13 season, with NCHC competition commencing in the subsequent season, charting an exciting new course for the team.
Other sports teams at UNO include baseball, softball, men’s and women’s basketball, and volleyball, among others.
Creighton Bluejays: College Athletics
Creighton University’s athletic program boasts a diverse array of NCAA Division I sports. In a historic move in July 2013, Creighton transitioned to the Big East Conference, ending a remarkable 35-year affiliation with the Missouri Valley Conference. The focal point of the university’s sports scene, the men’s basketball team, calls the CHI Health Center home. Additionally, Morrison Stadium hosts thrilling home games for both the men’s and women’s soccer teams.
